Using BDV Notepad it is not necessary to replace a standard Windows Notepad. It is enough to open a BDV Notepad, and in the panel of Settings to proceed to Associations tab. Mark types of files, which you want to open with the help of BDV Notepad.
If you want to restore old associations, simply remove marks from the chosen types of files. The old associations will be restored. It is easy and safe operations.
If you want completely replace standard Windows Notepad with BDV Notepad, do the following operations:
1. If you work in Windows 2000/XP: reboot the computer in a Safe Mode.
2. Rename the old Notepad (may be you will need an old Notepad in a future).
3. Copy all necessary files of the BDV Notepad in a folder with Windows installed.
4. Reboot your machine.

Используя BDV Notepad вам вовсе необязательно заменять стандартный Notepad Windows. Достаточно запустить BDV Notepad и в панели Настроек перейти на закладку Ассоциаций. Пометьте типы файлов, которые хотите открывать с помощью BDV Notepad.
Если вы захотите восстановить старые ассоциации - просто снимите пометки с нужных типов файлов. Это восстановит пердыдущие ассоциации.
Если вы все-таки желаете полностью заменить стандартный блокнот в вашей системе, проделайте следующее:
1. Если вы работаете в Windows 2000/XP: перезагрузите компьютер в Безопасный Режим.
2. Переименуйте старый Notepad (на случай, если он вам когда-нибудь понадобится).
3. Скопируйте все необходимые файлы BDV Notepad в папку с установленной Windows.
4. Перезагрузите компьютер.
